Miss M’s Medical Journey

I’ll attempt to keep this as a running list of major milestones in Miss M’s medical journey.

mid-January, 2011 – We find out that Miss M has a bilateral cleft lip and palate during an ultrasound (~20 weeks pregnant).

June 6, 2011 – Miss M arrives via c-section!

June 6, 2011 – Miss M admitted to the NICU (cyanosis) (4 nights in the hospital).

June 18, 2011 – Miss M admitted to hospital with a fever, which is eventually diagnosed as pneumonia, after several scary days she finally responds to vancomycin (12 nights in the hospital).  While there, she also has an echocardiogram and they discover a ventricular septal defect (VSD) and a patent foramen ovale (PFO) – two heart defects which the cardiologist says we will have to monitor, but surgery will likely not be required.  She also had a renal ultrasound which showed normal function.

August 23, 2011 – Received diagnosis of Klippel-Feil syndrome from orthopedist.

October 19, 2011 – Miss M’s first MRI (I’m guessing there will be more…).

October 20, 2011 – Receive diagnosis of tethered cord from neurosurgeon.

October 29, 2011 – Cleft lip repair/rhinoplasty (craniofacial surgeon) and ear tubes (ENT) (1 night in the hospital).

January 9, 2012 – Spinal cord de-tethering (3 nights in the hospital).

June 8, 2012 – Cleft palate repair (3 stays for a total of 6 nights in the hospital – complicated by an enterovirus that you picked up immediately before/after surgery)
